What you can upload
Upload the files your download tool saves from driver cards and vehicle units. TachoTrace reads what is inside each file, so the file name and extension do not matter.
In short
- Driver card and vehicle unit downloads. The type is read from the content, not from the name or extension.
- ZIP archives of those files. Each file inside is handled as its own upload.
- Up to 16 MB per upload. A ZIP can hold up to 1,000 files.
- The same file twice changes nothing. It is recognised and not stored again.
- Detailed speed data is not used. It only takes up storage space.
How to upload
Use Upload downloads at the top of any page. You can choose several files at once. Source files then lists each file with its status, and the page updates as files are processed.
If a file cannot be used, Source files shows the reason next to it. See Why a file was rejected or flagged.
Files TachoTrace reads
- Driver card downloads: the file your download tool saves from a driver card.
- Vehicle unit downloads: the file saved from the vehicle unit with your company card.
- Any file name and any extension. A file is recognised by its content.
Upload driver card files as well as vehicle unit files. A vehicle unit file links activity to a driver only while that driver's card was in the unit, so driving without a card cannot be linked to anyone. See Missing data.
ZIP archives
- Each file inside a ZIP is saved and processed as its own upload. Folders inside the ZIP are fine.
- Hidden files and folders (names starting with a dot, and __MACOSX) are ignored.
- Empty files, files that cannot be read and files over 16 MB inside the archive are skipped. The message after the upload says how many.
- A ZIP with more than 1,000 files is refused.
- Unpacking stops at 256 MB. Files saved before that point stay saved; upload the rest in a smaller archive.
Size
One upload, a single file or a ZIP, can be up to 16 MB. Every file you store counts towards your storage. See Plans, seats and storage.
Uploading the same file again
- An identical file is recognised by its content and not stored again. The message says "Already uploaded. Nothing changed."
- A different download that only repeats days you already hold is stored as its own evidence. Source files then says "No new data". It still counts towards your storage.
Detailed speed data
- Vehicle units can record detailed speed data, and some download tools include it in the download.
- The legal download intervals cover all recorded data except detailed speed data (Regulation (EU) No 581/2010, Article 1(2)).
- TachoTrace does not use detailed speed data. When a file contains it, Source files says so and shows its size. It counts towards your storage.
- To save space, switch it off in your download tool if the tool allows it. See your tool's manual.
These guides explain; they are not legal advice. Where they quote a regulation, the source is linked.
